What a beautiful day

Hardly original that, but I had to say it.

Who am I, this Ian Bye who is suddenly found to be writing a blog, though a few years ago I didn't know what a blog was, and what it meant.

But when I was young, (a clue there) I wrote A DIARY, it was the same thing as a blog, written by hand in books, that stretched back from about 1974 to 1963 and was full of the crap that a lad of that age would write, very meaningful, very empassioned, and unfortuately to all those who read it, pretty boring.

So now I have retired, walked out of the office the other day, saying goodbye to Mary and Helen with hugs (and a big bottle of southern Comfort that I have barely made a dint in) and I have time to kill, so I thought how about douing it again.

Well, I have been a civil servant for a long time (37 years nearly) and in that time have been fairly straight. No wild times for me, although working for the Prison Service was illuminating, and pretty enjoyable most of time. It was fun working as I did orginally at the "coal face" in a jail with the "screws" and the "cons" and doing what prisons will always do, locking people up, making sure they are fed and watered, get clothes to wear, kill errant infestations of cockroaches and generally try to make sure that everyting in the prison runs like a well oiled machine. If only.

But that is all in the past now, and so I suppose this blog is meant to catalog my, and my Missus' journey through retirement.

In that 37 years I have had two children, and adopted a third, and am happy with them. No geniuses there, but they both try their best in ther own way, and that is really all that can be hoped. Thomas and Dominic and Rosie, all amazing in their own way, all special in their own way, we, (thats me and the missus) are proud of them.

Not forgetting granchildren, Liam, who is 7, and a handsome little boy full of football and doing things, I remember when I had his energy.

So a basic background is set, retired on Friday, writing this on sunday, and as we go through however many years we have got to come you the reader, (if there ever is one) will no doubt get to know me more.

End with a photo

The final get together, Jane, Louise, Liz, Me, Helen & Mary at Zizis in Leicester

I have to say that I will miss them, Louise has been one of the most fun people to work with, Liz and Jane are both great individuals, and Helen and Mary have been fantastic friends, I will miss them all.

But onward............
